About This Program

Purdue University's NROTC program operates through the Polytechnic Institute and takes full advantage of the university's engineering depth — one of the strongest undergraduate engineering programs in the country. All scholarship midshipmen attend Carrier Orientation Training for Midshipmen (CORTRAMID) after their first year, spending dedicated weeks with the surface, submarine, aviation, and Marine Corps communities in San Diego or Norfolk. Marine Option midshipmen attend Fleet Marine Force month at Camp Lejeune or Camp Pendleton for four weeks of MAGTF exposure before OCS. Submarine and nuclear surface warfare selection rates at Purdue are consistently strong, driven by a student body that arrives already accustomed to calculus, physics, and rigorous analytical coursework. Aviation selection is also well-represented. Purdue has produced astronauts from its ROTC programs, and the unit culture reflects the institutional pride in technical achievement.
