About This Program

Nebraska's Cornhusker Battalion at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln benefits from a large land-grant university environment and draws cadets from across the Plains states. The program runs specialty teams including Ranger Challenge, a Ranger Buddy Competition, and a Northern Warfare Challenge team that competes in an 18-mile ruck march through the bluffs of La Crosse, Wisconsin, signaling a culture that prizes physical toughness beyond the standard fitness test. Lincoln's central Nebraska location means the National Guard pipeline is active, and many cadets commission directly into the Nebraska Army National Guard. Offutt Air Force Base is nearby in Omaha, and the battalion partners loosely with the Creighton Blackwolves for the greater Omaha area. The program draws STEM students from UNL's strong engineering school, which can give cadets a competitive OML edge. Cadre has historically included 10th Mountain and infantry-experienced officers based on available records.
