About This Program

Morehouse College hosts the Atlanta University Center NROTC unit — one of the most historically significant HBCU commissioning programs in the country. The unit draws midshipmen from Morehouse, Spelman College, and Clark Atlanta University, representing the intellectual and social core of Black higher education in America. The program was established at Morehouse in 1987 (consolidating from an earlier crosstown arrangement with Georgia Tech) and has commissioned over 200 Naval officers since its founding. The AUC campus community provides a distinctive cultural context: midshipmen navigate military professionalism alongside the legacy of the Civil Rights movement and Black intellectual tradition. Service selection outcomes include Marine Corps, SWO, and aviation communities. The unit's proximity to Georgia Tech allows resource sharing and professional development events. Marine Option midshipmen here receive strong preparation from a dedicated Marine Officer Instructor.
