Det 315 at the University of Missouri is one of the few AFROTC programs with a genuine B-2 Spirit stealth bomber community anchor. Whiteman AFB in Warrensburg — 50 miles from campus — is the world's only operational B-2 wing (509th Bomb Wing), and the university maintains formal partnerships with the base. For cadets who want the most operationally sophisticated bomber pipeline in the Air Force, geographic proximity to the 509th is an irreplaceable advantage. Columbia's position less than 150 miles from both Whiteman and Scott AFB (Air Mobility Command) means the detachment touches both the Global Strike and airlift communities. The program culture carries the weight of that operational neighbor — cadets visit, cadre have often flown from there, and the B-2's mission shapes how the detachment talks about what it trains people for.
