About This Program

Det 165 at Georgia Tech is among the most academically credentialed AFROTC programs in the country, drawing from one of the top engineering universities in the world and hosting cross-town schools across metro Atlanta. The detachment has been rated in the top 10 percent nationally and has commissioned over 1,700 officers since the 1920s. The career field output skews heavily toward Space Force, cyber, acquisitions, and research and development — Georgia Tech computer science and aerospace engineering graduates are exactly what the Air Force Research Laboratory and Space Systems Command recruit. Recent commissioning cycles have seen multiple cadets go directly into Space Force billets, and the Space Force pipeline here is one of the more intentional in the AFROTC system. Rated board competition is real, but the wing culture reflects the university: intense, technically literate, and intellectually driven.
