About This Program

The Bulldog Battalion at UGA draws cadets from Athens and Georgia Gwinnett College in Lawrenceville, creating a multi-campus structure different from single-campus programs. Proximity to Fort Moore (formerly Fort Benning) — the Home of the Infantry, about 100 miles southwest — is a practical training advantage and creates a strong pipeline relationship with Infantry and Ranger School for combat arms cadets. Athens is embedded in a state with one of the largest Army National Guard components in the Southeast, which means Guard and Reserve opportunities are culturally visible and actively recruitable. UGA's academic reputation in business, pre-law, and public affairs attracts cadets who often branch Intelligence, Military Police, JAG-adjacent fields, and Logistics alongside combat arms. The program is traditional (not SMC), so self-discipline is the differentiating factor — cadets who earn strong OML scores here did it without mandatory Corps formations creating external accountability. The Bulldog Battalion competes in 4th Brigade Ranger Challenge and has a tradition of producing officers who pursue Ranger School assessment in their first assignment.
