Det 025 at Arizona State was recognized as the 2023 Best Large Detachment in the United States, a designation awarded by Air Education and Training Command based on officer production, cadet quality, technical degree attainment, and cost effectiveness — and it earned that distinction with over 250 cadets from ASU and 11 affiliated cross-town institutions. Luke AFB, the world's largest F-35 training wing, sits 15 miles from campus; cadets regularly get flight line tours and interact with the F-35 instructor pilot community. Davis-Monthan AFB with its A-10 wing is two hours south. The rated board culture here is competitive — the sheer cadet volume means the bottom of the Order of Merit gets left behind, so PCSM preparation and physical fitness are treated as year-round projects. The Space Force pipeline is growing given Arizona's space industry presence.
