About This Program

The Razorback Battalion won the MacArthur Award in 2016, placing it among the top 8 of 275 programs — a recognition based on commissioning mission achievement, cadet OML standing, and retention rates. The program uses Fort Chaffee near Fort Smith for Fall FTX events, giving cadets access to a full military installation for land navigation, M4 qualification, and STX lanes rather than the improvised training areas that smaller programs rely on. Fayetteville is in northwest Arkansas, which is not proximate to major Active Duty installations, but the Arkansas Army National Guard's 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team in Little Rock creates a strong state-side commissioning pipeline. The battalion serves as a host for partner schools including University of Arkansas Fort Smith, John Brown University, and Northeastern State University in Oklahoma, which means the program has experience managing cross-campus relationships. Branch selection reflects a combat-arms orientation consistent with the rural Southern program demographic. Cadets who want to stay in the region post-commissioning have genuine Guard options, but those targeting Active Duty should be prepared to compete hard on national OML.
