The training pipeline is one of the longer ones in the electronics field because radar theory is genuinely complex: RF transmission, signal processing, antenna theory, waveguide plumbing, and system integration. In the fleet, you are in the avionics shop alongside the comm techs, but your specialty is the radar suite. When the radar goes down, the aircraft capability is significantly degraded and you are under pressure to get it back up. The community is small, the equipment is expensive, and the margin for error is thin. Civilian translation is strong — radar and RF engineers are needed in aerospace, weather services, ATC, and defense. Companies like Raytheon were literally founded on radar technology and still hire heavily for these skills.
