If 3047 had a warning label: you need a clean record — any court-martial, civilian conviction, or NJP involving larceny, theft, or drugs disqualifies you — plus a favorably adjudicated NACLC. If 0111 had one: nobody respects admin until something they care about requires admin to fix it — then you are briefly the most important person in the building. Neither job comes with a warning label. Both probably should. Two career paths that diverge at the terminal leave start date and never reconverge.

You do not enlist into this one. On 1 October 2024 the Corps merged 3043 and 3051 at the rank of sergeant into 3047, so making NCO is the door. Both legacy MOSs still exist below that — entry-level training for them did not change — which means your first enlistment is spent as a 3043 or 3051 and the merge happens to you on promotion. The job widens fast: warehousing, inventory, property, storage, secondary reparables, and enough DoD financial-system work to track funds from obligation to liquidation. You need a clean record — any court-martial, civilian conviction, or NJP involving larceny, theft, or drugs disqualifies you — plus a favorably adjudicated NACLC. Sergeants must finish the Supply Chain Manager Course to be eligible for staff sergeant, so the course is a promotion gate, not a nice-to-have. Lateral movers coming in at E5 and above owe the Supply Chain Management Basic Course at Camp Lejeune.

You will become intimately familiar with MOL, MCTFS, unit diaries, and the specific formatting requirements of every administrative document the Marine Corps has ever invented. You are the person everyone comes to when their pay is wrong, their leave was rejected, or their award package disappeared into the administrative void. Nobody respects admin until something they care about requires admin to fix it — then you are briefly the most important person in the building. The work is repetitive, detail-intensive, and chronically thankless, but the hours are genuinely better than most MOSs and you will never hump a mortar baseplate up a mountain. The civilian translation is strong for office management, HR assistant, and government administrative positions. If you can navigate the Marine Corps personnel system without losing your mind, corporate HR will feel like a vacation.
