Machinist's Mate A-School

Fourteen weeks of learning the propulsion and auxiliary systems that make ships move — steam turbines, diesel engines, hydraulics, and refrigeration. MMs live in the engineering spaces: hot, loud, and essential. The joke is that everyone else rides on the ship while MMs make it go. The skills transfer directly to civilian power plants, HVAC, and industrial maintenance. Your hands will be permanently stained with oil and your hearing will never be the same.
