Suggest a Feature →Annual BASOPS for Thule Space Force Base, Greenland — the northernmost U.S. military installation at 76° North latitude, located 750 miles north of the Arctic Circle. Thule hosts the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System (BMEWS), providing missile warning coverage of polar trajectories, and a Space Surveillance Radar. The extreme Arctic environment — months of complete darkness, temperatures to -50°F — makes Thule one of the most expensive installations per-capita in DoD. Approximately 600 military and civilian personnel rotate through annually.
