Annual BASOPS for Marine Barracks Washington ("8th & I"), Washington D.C. — the oldest active post of the Marine Corps (established 1801) and the ceremonial and musical heart of the Corps. Home to the Marine Corps Band ("The President's Own"), the Silent Drill Platoon, and the Friday Evening Parade. The Commandant of the Marine Corps and Assistant Commandant reside at 8th & I. Despite its small size, this installation carries enormous institutional significance.
