Recruiter vs. Reality
What they tell you

You'll drive one of the Marine Corps' primary logistics vehicles — the MTVR 7-ton truck that moves ammunition, equipment, and Marines to wherever they need to go. Motor transport is the backbone of Marine logistics, and the CDL skills you develop are immediately employable the day you separate. The civilian trucking industry has a genuine driver shortage and pays well for disciplined, experienced operators.

What it's actually like

You will drive a very large truck in conditions that civilian truck drivers would cite as grounds for additional hazard pay. Convoy operations, weight restrictions that don't apply to military necessity, roads that were not designed for a vehicle this size — all part of the job. Vehicle PMCS will occupy a significant portion of your garrison time because the 7-ton has opinions about maintenance intervals. The CDL is real and valuable. Commercial trucking companies — particularly those with government contracts — actively recruit Marine Corps Motor T veterans because the convoy discipline and accountability translate to civilian operations without requiring extensive retraining.
