MOS COMPARISON

11B vs 38A

Infantryman (USA) vs Civil Affairs (USA)

Intel

Same green uniform, different buildings, same parking lot argument about who actually works harder. The debate predates both MOS codes.

What the brochure didn't mention about 11B: your 'leadership development' is standing in formation waiting for someone to get yelled at for something you also did but didn't get caught doing. 'Master weapons systems' means you'll carry an M4 that was manufactured when Britney Spears was still relevant and learn to field strip it in your sleep — which is good, because you won't be getting much of it. What the brochure forgot about 38A: the work requires a combination of genuine cultural sensitivity, operational practicality, and tolerance for ambiguity that is somewhat unusual in the Army officer corps. The defense budget contains multitudes. This comparison is proof.
